Before the term 'comfort food' was on anyone's tongue, Aunt Ruby made it.
Ruby was my G'Ma's baby sister. They were two from a family of fourteen living children.
Simple living. Simple food. Now we term it 'comfort'. We make it too. Love it. So will you.
1.5 pounds lean ground beef (we include a bit of mild pork sausage)
1 Cup regular oatmeal, not the quick cooking kind.
1 tsp. salt, pepper to taste
1/4 Cup sugar, [YES!]
1/2 Cup catsup
1 scant tablespoon of flour
1 medium chopped onion
MIX ingredients together with hands. [Yes, you get to play with your food!]
ADD enough WATER to make a soft consistency. Do NOT use milk. Milk makes it tough!
BAKE 1.5 hours in a 350 degree oven. I don't use catsup on my piece. Tastes good just as it is.
